Legal Eagles Visit Year 5 – May 2017

Earlier this month, teams Picasso and Lowry were lucky enough to learn all about the criminal legal system from a Magistrate and an Ex-Magistrate who call themselves “The Legal Eagles”.  Children from each class played the parts of: Magistrates, a defendant, his solicitor, a solicitor for the prosecution and witnesses to an alleged crime.  Based on the evidence they heard and statements from the solicitors, the Magistrates had to give a verdict declaring the defendant guilty or not guilty.  Despite hearing exactly the same evidence, the Magistrates from team Picasso found the defendant guilty, while those in Lowry found him not guilty.  Proof that it must be a very difficult job!
