Sporting Updates Nov 2019

Football

We started our football fixtures with the Year 6 boys playing Galley Hill. The teams were well matched and the teamwork displayed must be commended. The Team Captain and goalie ,Chris, organised and encouraged the boys and held the score with some very quick and accurate saves. Well done Chris, a most deserving Man of the Match. The away fixture was an even tighter game, Westfield lost 2-1 having fought to the final whistle for the equaliser.

Our Year 5 boys started their season with a conceded match followed by an action packed 8-6 victory over Great Gaddesden. Again the team can be commended for their teamwork and sportsmanship and congratulations to George for scoring a hat trick.

Despite the terrible pitch conditions, the boys played South Hill at home and unfortunately lost 3-2. Man of the match must be awarded to Luke in goal for his determination and perseverance.

The Girls’ team were awarded a victory against The Reddings as they were unable to field a team.

Sports Leaders

The sports leaders have now been presented with their tee shirts and are supporting play leaders to run activities during lunch breaks. In addition the Year 6  leaders are running a lunch time club for some Year 2 & 3 pupils until Christmas. We hope to involve more leaders next term and invite other year groups to attend.

KS1 Virtual Run

Y1 &2 have been participating in a virtual Great Run competition with other Dacorum schools, a shorter version of the daily mile. Every pupil has been timed for a distance of 300 m to find the fastest pupils in the area. Watch this space.

Year 2 Sports Festival

On Wednesday 6th November all of Year 2 walked up to the sports centre to take part in the Year 2 sports festivals.  Many of the schools from the town attended and the Year 9 sports leaders from Ashlyns did an amazing job at planning and delivering a round robin of sports activities which ranged from hockey skills, speed stacking, assault course and dance to name a few.

The children in Year 2 had a fantastic time, worked hard, were excellent ambassadors for the school and exhausted by the end of the day!!!

Special thanks to the kind parents that help to support us on our walk to and from the leisure centre, as always we cannot do these extra special events without your help.
