On Tuesday 13th March, Year 3 visited Berkhamsted Castle as part of their topic on Berkhamsted Transport. We wanted to better understand the local history and the impact of transport on historic places in the town. We were guided around the castle ruins by some very knowledgeable local historians who told as lots of interesting facts about the castle itself and spoke to us about the impact of the railway on Berkhamsted Castle and the town. We walked to the castle via the canal and compared what was there today and in the past, and on the way back we walked along the high street to look at the Old Coaching Inns (now The Swan, The Kings Arms and Bills). The children did Westfield proud with their enthusiasm, knowledge, questions and good behaviour.
