School Hours

Our School Week – Meeting the DfE’s 32.5 Hour Expectation
 
From September 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) has set an expectation that all primary schools provide a minimum school week of 32.5 hours.
This means that children should be in school for 32 hours and 30 minutes each week, including lesson time, registration, and breaks. The aim is to make sure that all pupils across the country have the same amount of learning time each week.  We also include during this time the daily mile, for every class, every day.
 
At Westfield, our school day runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm, Monday to Friday.
 
This adds up to 32.5 hours, which meets the government’s expectation.
 
We believe this structure gives children a good balance of learning, play, exercise and rest throughout the day, helping them to make the most of their time in school.

Children can arrive at school from 8.35 and no later than 8.45 each day and are dropped at their classroom door.  Year 5/6 can walk to and from school independently if parents have given their permission and informed the school. The timetable is as follows:

8.55 Lessons begin
9:00 Assembly (Fridays – 8.50am Parents welcome)
10.30 Playtime
10.45 Lessons
12.00 Lunch time
1.00 Lessons
3.15 End of day

 

Nursery

Morning session runs from 8.45 am until 11.45 am.

Lunch session from 11.45am – 1.00pm

Afternoon session from 1.00pm – 3.15pm
