We are a healthy school because we have….

  • Colour coded choices at dinner time to help us eat balanced meals
  • Drinking water in the playground
  • Fruit snack during playtime
  • Cycling skills in Year 5
  • Swimming lessons for Years 3 and 4
  • A vegetable garden
  • Extra-curricular sports clubs such as Dance, Dodgeball, football and Tae-Kwondo.
  • Inter-school sports competitions
  • Scooter training in Year 2
  • The Daily Mile

In June 2016 we Introduced The Daily Mile and in October 2020 we got a purpose built track. The idea is that children run for 15 minutes every day (and cover roughly 1 mile) to help them be more active. Studies have shown that the fitter and healthier children are, the happier they are and the better their brains function in class. The children can run, jog or walk but the emphasis is on them moving for the full 15 minutes.  Click the link here to watch a short video on what The Daily Mile is all about.  You might even see some familiar faces! The Daily Mile

We have introduced an additional challenge to our Daily Mile – The Daily Mile Marathon. Pupils will aim to run 26 daily miles in order to achieve Marathon Status. A Westfield Marathon Wristband will be awarded to those who are successful.

There has been very positive feedback from the children where all have seen themselves improve against their personal best! Find out more and see who else takes part in The Daily Mile on the participation map: www.thedailymile.co.uk

Health for Kids is a new website this year which aims to deliver topical health messages and advice through interactive tools and creative marketing materials. By covering subjects that promote health and well-being, the aim is to educate and help young people to make the right choices.  Not only do the Hertfordshire websites provide local health updates, events and information, but it will contain the contact details of all School Nursing Teams across the county and signpost to relevant services.  To see the Hertfordshire Health for Kids website just click the link – Health for Kids

We have healthy, happy children and staff at our school.
