Admissions

If you decide you would like to apply for a place at our school, you will need to apply through the Admissions department of the Local Education Authority. We do not handle our own admissions or have any influence over who is, or is not, offered a place from Reception to Year 6.  Parents moving to the area are advised to phone the school to discuss admission procedures.

Admissions procedure

The school and Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) operates two separate admission systems for Nursery and Reception. This means that the offer of a place in Nursery does not guarantee a place in school.

Nursery

Maintained schools in Hertfordshire are now responsible for the admissions of children to nursery in 2018-19 and onwards.

The following Berkhamsted schools: Bridgewater, Greenway, St Marys, Swing-Gate, Victoria and Westfield, are working together to ensure the process is the same in each school and that parents receive consistent information that will enable them to make informed decisions about their preferred nursery school.

The time line for the nursery admissions process is detailed below and further information regarding the procedure for applying for a nursery place can be downloaded here:

Our Nursery tour dates will be advertised on the homepage of the website as and when they are agreed.

The following timeline for Nursery applications is being followed by the schools listed above:

5 February 2018 – Nursery applications open. Application via online form on the school website (paper copies are available from the school on request)

16 March 2018 – Nursery applications close for on time applications (applications can be accepted at any point after this date, but will be dealt with after on time applications)

25 April 2018 – Nursery places are offered to families by email

4 May 2018 – Deadline for accepting Nursery places

(From 4 May onwards we can continue to accept applications and allocate Nursery places to children, based on availability).

Reception

Children are accepted into school in the September of the school year they are 5. For more information regarding applying for a place at Westfield Primary School please visit the Hertsdirect website.

In Year Applications

An application to move between schools straight away (or within a few weeks) is known as an In Year application. This is when a child wishes to transfer to another school outside of the usual transfer time, for example because of a change of address.  For more information and to make an In Year Application please refer to the Hertfordshire County Council website using this link In Year Applications website.
